Of course, it should be no surprise that Brittany Howard can do anything she pleases. A new single pushing into an entirely new space, Howard delivers a hit.
Guided by a soaring synth line, the song rips. Howard hops in alongside a thick and fuzzy bass line, even on the house track, you can feel the power of her guitar. The claps pick up, the whole moment feels so good. Howard repeating her one (massive) desire.
Just as the song fades, the drums return to carry us on. Some airy keys hold Howard through a vulnerable and honest verse. The brutal fears of what love can mean, what pain could sit on the other side. That next release, “I love the way you make me feel” syncs up with the rest of the production, the song surging into a moment of euphoria to distract from these thoughts.
Rare to see someone this accomplished make such a turn, but my god am I excited for whatever’s to come. Still such great writing, such a great vocal performance, and even in a new genre, it rocks. We’re in good hands.
