I’m still obsessed with EFÉ’s 2020 indie R&B hit, Table for Two. But my oh my is this an exciting next chapter.
Opening like an 90’s indie track, guitars ringing out with an intimate vocal. Dressed with some bass and tasteful piano ever so slightly out of tune. At 0:49 we find this ear-worm of a melody, familiar but falling over some more sinister chords. You can feel the storm coming.
You’re gonna wanna prepare yourself.
A shrieking electric guitar calls out and the band responds. Rock and Roll, as big as it gets, with EFÉ’s angelic vocals smoothing the edges. Everyone goes back to normal as if nothing happened, and we’re back in another breezy verse.
When the drums dip out, I start to get excited. When they start to pound back in, I’m freaking out. The fizzle out before they can explode, and honestly thank god, my little heart couldn’t have taken it yet. It backs out entirely with the vocals almost whispering out, so personal. Only making the launch back to the huge chorus that much more special. A moment to great to not run back, it’s a powerful end to a powerful song.
