OK this one is crazy. Honestly the whole record is, but we’ll get to that when we get to it. For now, just tap in to Lorelei, of Empress Of’s For Your Consideration. Perfect title btw.
Off rip, it’s weird and alive. The synth and the quiet vocals, a push and pull of digital and human. That one silent moment that feels so intoxicating, like opening the trap door and I have no choice but to fall in.
EO’s vocals are so smooth, this melody having no trouble riding the bouncy production. The verse’s punctuated/staccato feel dissipates into this flowing chorus. What’s her name / does she know how much she’s made me cry? Confronting a cheating lover (or maybe just situationship that’s turning south) through this devastating perspective it’s soooo juicy and a real delight to find in a pop song like this.
Verse two gets back to the more rigid rhythm, asking hard questions, the ones you don’t really want to hear the answer to, as the production swirls around us.
Back to the chorus, which ends with EO reaching to this higher, beautiful melody. We nananana through the bridge, just feeling our way through this mess. It’s really a club hit, and I’m beyond impressed by Empress Of, someone who just keeps putting out hit after hit after hit. My goodness.
