I AM OVERWHELMED. It’s Friday, and honestly thank god, because this week was overflowing with amazing new music and if there was one more day of it, my little heart just wouldn’t be ale to take it. Every artist got on the group text and vowed to spoil us this week. I kept it as short as I could, some true gems this week. Let’s get into it.
What’s New This Week:
New additions to MMATOD:
Gargoyle - M Field
For Fans Of: woodblocks, smooth vocals singing devastating lyrics but tricking us into making it a happy song, Vampire Weekend
Haven’t been able to stop playing this one all week. M Field is an amazing singer and really put together something special here. All the instruments feel unique and needed, his voice tying it all together. Around half way through, it really blossoms into more than I ever expected, a synth solo going wild over the band at it’s peak. Some vocal x plucks running laps around the track too. Ending it all with crazy harmonies and layers. I love this song and can’t wait for more from M Field.
Cheers - Faye Webster
FFO - heavy guitars, emotional storytelling with plenty of sass, Quinn Christopherson
HOLY MOLY this one just rocks. My song of the week. The bass, the claps, the feedback, all the perfect canvas for Webster to go wild. Well, wild with a devastating composure in her delivery that went ahead and cracked me right open from first listen. Feels like a natural next step, somehow Webster is cooler than she already was (which was deeply and incredibly cool, just for the record). I know it’s early… but I’m penciling in “Sometimes I’m scared to show my dad, ‘cause you’re always cussing” for lyric of the year. That delivery of cussing…... I could lose it!!!!
Anybody Else - Spill Tab
FFO - falling in love, sauntering pop music with a subtle western flair
CHOO CHOO ALL ABOARD THE SPILL TAB TRAIN because the train is leaving the station and simply cannot be stopped. They haven’t missed yet, and seem to just get better and better with every release. So unique, so cool, so passionate, it’s a beautiful two mins. Spill Tab has been all too generous to us lately. This one speaks for itself, just basking in the sun of it all.
This Is How I Lost My Friends - Laraw
FFO - internal monologues, when dancing = jumping up and down for three minutes straight, guitar riff driven pop hits
This is maybe the exact song that this second newsletter was built for. A song I am DESPERATE to SCREAM about to anyone who will listen (so, thank you). I just couldn’t wait a second longer and I’m glad that’s the case. High energy, urgent pop, insanely creative production, undeniable singing, it’s a dang treat I really love this one. Plus a refrain built around belting, “what the fuck is a MATTER WITH ME??” is something I adore. The bridge -> chorus transition around 2:43 or so is textbook “Good Stuff” in my book. I’m so delighted.
In My Mind - Mysie
FFO - Billie Eilish x James Blake (x Selena Gomez??) but make it london r&b, dancing in your chair
Hypnotic riff with Mysie’s one of a kind vocals. Such a great performance and such bold production. The drop could have gone one of one thousand different ways, and yet, they chose the perfect path. It’s a very real feeling groove, that bass coming alive, the percussion surrounding the track. Mysie playing the line between haunting and passionate, holds a gentle power, it’s beautiful.
Faceless - IOAH ft. Hunjiya
FFO - Jazzy & visceral & savage pop anthems, sick vocals running alongside gnarly guitar riffs
Ripping out the gate with an in-your-face guitar, Hunjiya coming through ready to match the energy with her vocals. The filter gives her tone such an edge. The explosive “begging me for mercy” cutting up against the angelic ooo’s growing underneath. The chorus is big and has an attitude, you can feel the whole band on the same page about that. Everyone gets a chance to shine as we build back up for another chorus, feeling even bigger, even more direct. I’m clapping over here!!!
Love You For A Long Time (Live) - Maggie Rogers ft. Sam Gendel & Sam Wilkes
FFO - Sustained piano chords, a warm breeze, tender ballads
Real ones know this is basically my Christmas (I say, as a Jew who admires and respects Santa). Any Maggie Rogers release is a blessing for me, and this insane version of LYFALT is no different. So loving and so intimate, it feels honest “feel it in my body, know it in my mind” folks i’m dead. And employing the help of Sam and Sam, the former who already captured my heart with his B-A-N-A-N-A-S *Gwen Stefani voice, naturally* rework of Vampire Weekend's 2021. A new voice for a sax, and I really do love it. A perfect one to send you into the weekend.

Yet, somehow, this isn’t even it… overflowing, what did I say. Be sure to check the playlist out, it’s always changing and is genuinely what I’m listening to all the other days.
Five more songs that just dropped that I bet will be good but I haven’t listened to enough to actually write about.
I could truly put 20 more here without breaking a sweat (I guess this implies sometimes adding songs to playlists makes me sweat? idk), just a ridiculous week.
In case you missed it, some stories and links:
The fact that there’s already so much good stuff here and I’m leaving out new music from Maddie Jay, Terrell Hines, anotttther Remi Wolf Remix, Half Waif, a Buscabulla remix, Squirrel Flower, Medium Build, Maisyn, kmoe, Phoebe ∆X∆, quickly quickly, the list literally goes on and on, gonna be a busy weekend for me… But for now, that’s it. We’ll be back monday for a couple deep dives. Until then, I hope you have a great weekend.
Hope you like the playlist (both in the real way and the clicking the heart button on spotify way) <3 <3 And please share with anyone else you know who might be looking for new music.
Yours,
Max
