poolblood - wringer

phenomenal indie tune with an epic turn

I’m so excited about poolblood. Such a special voice, and damn this single is gem. You hear the guitar and go “oh yeah, this is exactly how you write a perfect progression”, poolblood makes it look easy.

I’m entranced by this first verse - the why stretched between phrases in such a surprising and effective way. Dropping in with the whole band, a new guitar riff coloring the sides of the song.

The first minute and a half seems to build on itself. Sonically and lyrically. It starts to build beyond 1:45 with crazy harmonies - the chords simple but they sound so wild.

It’s enough to break the song open, some strings appearing, some bells beneath everything else. Where does it live repeated as momentum-building mantra, the orchestra rallying behind poolblood, the band returning with strength too. All building till it bursts, and the return to a more familiar arrangement feels like such a sweet and soft relief.

It’s a big and beautiful song, and I can’t wait to have it on repeat (already happening).
