Why subscribe?

I spend way to much time looking and listening to new music from new artists and MMM is the place where I can share all of it. Nothing goes in here that I don’t genuinely love. But as long as I love it, there are no other rules. This is just music I believe in, artists I want to support.

And now - there’s a paid version :) I’ll be writing the newsletter you know and love (I hope) - two discoveries and whatever else I’m listening to - twice per month for all subscribers. Paying subscribers ($5/mo or $50/yr) will also get a once a month treat - some fun project like these live performances, interviews, guest essays, anything/everything my little brain can muster. Plus, as we grow, there’s so much more to do together - a discord? the maxies IRL? anything is possible :)

Where does the money go?

A paying subscriber, lets call her Debbie (which, yes, is my mom’s name and yes, Mom, if you are reading this, please subscribe!), shells out a meager $5/month. After substack/stripe fees, about $4 is landing in ‘ol Max’s Music Mondays town.

We take that $4 and we break it down so that 50% goes to the four artists that month, 35% goes to me, and 15% gets squirreled away to help pay people for those special subscriber posts - live performances and whatnot.

It’s a model that feels new to me, that feels mostly on target, and that feels like it can/will evolve over time. But most importantly, it’s one that I feel works and one I hope you can get just as excited about too.

I’ve been running with this since Jan ‘23 and a year later, we’ve paid out over $1200. I hope you’ll join us and help be a positive force in music <3

Can I submit my music?

Absolutely - email is always the easiest for me. If you throw Max’s Music Mondays Submission in the subject, I’ll see it. No need for anything fancy, just a quick email with your name, a sentence or two about you or your project, and a link to listen is all I need. I’ll do my best to listen and respond :)
